Jamie xx is back and has announced details of âIn Wavesâ â his first new solo album in nearly a decade. Check out the latest single below, as well as details of a newly-announced London show.
Set for release on September 20 via Young, the news of the upcoming project comes nine years after the musician, DJ and producer dropped his Grammy-winning debut âIn Colourâ.
The sophomore album will comprise 12 new songs from Jamie xx, including his recent collaboration with Honey Dijon for the summer hit âBaddy On The Floorâ. It is also set to capture the same âemotional crescendos and thrilling volatility of an almost mystical night outâ. It sees him join forces with huge names including Robyn, Panda Bear, John Glacier and more.
It has been in the works for four years now, and is also set to include further collaborations from his xx bandmates Romy and Oliver Sim.
To celebrate the announcement of the LP, the producer has dropped the riotous new single called âTreat Each Other Rightâ.
While it is only officially available today, the futuristic anthem has already been played live numerous times by Jamie â with the track making its way onto many of his DJ sets over the past few years.
This, a press release says, was so the musician could gauge the crowd reaction to the breakbeat anthem, and continue to refine the track until it felt complete. It arrives today alongside a captivating music video which he made alongside photographer and filmmaker Rosie Marks. Check it out below.
Set to arrive later this year, âIn Wavesâ sees Jamie look to build upon the success of the Grammy, BRIT, and Ivor Novello-winning predecessor, and push the songwriterâs solo discography into new boundaries.
He has already previewed the album across his The Floor residency, which took place at the MOT venue in South East London between May 16 and 25. The intimate shows saw him play 10 consecutive parties, as well as deliver a secret, personally-curated lineup of collaborators and friends who weren’t announced until the night itself.
âMy new album, âIn Wavesâ, will be out on September 20. I am so unbelievably happy,â he said in a new statement. âItâs been a whileâ¦Â and a lot has happened in that time. Ups and downs, growing up, figuring stuff out and then forgetting it all many times over. Life changing events and world changing events. These waves that we have all experienced together and alone.â
He continued: âI wanted to make something fun, joyful and introspective all at once. The best moments on a dance floor are usually that for me. I canât wait to share it with you.â
Aside from digital and CD formats, âIn Wavesâ will also come in multiple vinyl formats â including a deluxe LP which includes a bonus 12â of previous singles âItâs So Goodâ, âKill Demâ and âLet’s Do It Againâ plus two exclusive new tracks: âF U (ft. Erykah Badu)â and âDo Somethingâ.

As for new material with The xx, bandmate Romy spoke about the plans for new xx material during an interview with NME at the BRIT Awards 2024.
â[The xx have] been in the studio since I last spoke to NME and weâre in the studio again next week, so weâre meeting up regularly,â she explained. âItâs been really good. I think weâve all spent time apart and itâs healthy to miss each other.â
Romy added: âWeâre just keeping it really open and weâre up for trying new things, but it sounds like us. Thatâs all I can say right now.
âWeâve learned a lot from our different solo projects and itâs cool to learn from each other again. We grew up together and we had a lot of experiences, but to then have time apart and learn new skills, get new musical ideas and experiences and compare them⦠itâs been a healthy break.â
